Getting Closer

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 9/13/2004

We're often asked how many books you have to sell to get on the bestseller list. Of course, there is no absolute answer. Sometimes smaller print numbers can make for a bestseller. Mary Kay Andrews has a new novel, Hissy Fit (she has written 10 mysteries under her real name, Kathy Hogan Trocheck), and while publisher HarperCollins is aiming at the national charts, the book has already landed in the #7 slot on the Book Sense Mid-South Independent list and the Southeastern Independent Bestseller list. Andrews is doing a tour that will take her to 12 cities. Her book has 50,000 copies in print after four trips to press.
