Not the French Capital

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 9/20/2004

New to the nonfiction roster this week is a female author of a distinctly different stripe. Confessions of an Heiress: A Tongue-in-Chic Peek Behind the Pose is by Paris Hilton, a personality who these days seems to be, as the book's press release puts it, "the gossip columnists' favorite bold-faced name." Not surprisingly, said Touchstone Fireside publicity director Marcia Burch, "Paris and the book were all over the media. It's almost easier to say where there was no coverage." Hilton's interview schedule has hit just about all the usual suspects (plus a new arrival, The Tony Danza Show), with print coverage in most of the national dailies, including the New York Times. "All the tabloid shows," Burch added, "had extensive coverage of the book's publication, the extremely successful signings and our publication party." First serial ran in People; still to come are features on salon.com and nerve.com. After four trips back to press, the Fireside hardcover is up to 150,000 copies.
