Pearson Education Acquires Dominie Press

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 10/4/2004

Pearson Education added to its supplementary publishing holdings late last month with the purchase of Dominie Press. Based in Carlsbad, Calif., Dominie has a catalogue of about 2,300 titles targeted for the k-8 supplemental market. Its line includes leveled readers, reading and writing assessment materials, Spanish-language materials for k-6 reading and assessment, plus library books.

Dominie will become part of the Pearson Learning Group, based in Parsippany, N.J., and includes Modern Curriculum Press, Globe Fearon, Celebration Press, Dale Seymour and Pearson Early Learning. Dominie's staff of 18 will remain in California. PLG president Dan Caton said the company was particularly pleased to add Dominie's Spanish titles to the company's mix. The purchase also brings early childhood and nonfiction books, areas of "increasing importance to Pearson," Caton added.
