Grammar Rules

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 10/18/2004

It is one of the most unlikely subjects for a national bestseller list: punctuation. And yet, Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss so far has had a 26-week tenure on PW's hardcover charts and boasts one million copies in print. The book has been a mega-bestseller in England; it was #1 there for 25 weeks; British publisher Profile reports that sales have passed the one-million mark. U.S. publisher Gotham Books launched the book in April with a healthy 133,000-copy first printing. Over the past six months, there have been 22 more printings. Gotham is bringing Truss back to the States (weeks of November 8 and 15) for more promotion; she will be a headliner at the Miami Book Fair and will do a 13-city author tour.
