Teen Read Week: It's Alive!

by Joy Bean, PW Daily for Booksellers -- Publishers Weekly, 10/21/2004

This week marks Teen Read Week, an initiative run by the Young Adult Library Services Association division of the American Library Association, which began six years ago to promote teen reading. Celebrations and programs are being held all week in school and public libraries around the country, based on this year's theme of "It's Alive! @ your library."

On the Web site dedicated to the celebratory week, teens can cast up to three votes for their favorite books of the year, which will be compiled into a top 10 list in November. Another link provides a voting area where teens can sound off on what themes they would like to see in future years.

A range of ideas for promotions and programs are also available on the site, along with a planning calendar for those libraries that would like to begin a Teen Read Week program in their area in the future.
