Pinkwater Pick Puts Publisher, Booksellers on Toes
by Shannon Maughan, PW Daily for Booksellers -- Publishers Weekly, 12/6/2004
Daniel Pinkwater's selections for his regular segment on National Public Radio's Weekend Edition Saturday usually increase sales and encourage a rush of listeners to bookstores. His latest pick, The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, illustrated by Inga Moore (Candlewick), is no different. However, on air this past Saturday, Pinkwater noted, "I just found out a half hour ago that the publisher didn't print enough; they're running out of copies. So I urge you to order it in advance and wait for it to come in to in."
True enough, many booksellers have had trouble locating the title and some have exchanged exasperated comments on a few listservs. In the meantime, here's the official statement from the publisher about obtaining copies: "In response to Daniel Pinkwater's recent segment on National Public Radio's Weekend Edition, Candlewick Press will be reprinting The Wind in the Willows (0-7636-2242-7). A portion of the reprint will be in over the next several weeks and Candlewick will be able to start filling orders by the end of the year. The remaining copies will be available by the beginning of February."
