Mrkonic Resigns From Borders

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 1/3/2005

George Mrkonic, who served as vice-chairman of Borders Group from 1994 to 2002, and who has been a director since 1994, resigned as a board member at the end of 2004. Mrkonic had been a Kmart executive and moved to Borders when Kmart spun off the bookstore chain. After retiring as vice-chairman, Mrkonic continued to consult with Borders on its international operations, and he will continue to serve as a director of Paperchase, the U.K. stationery chain acquired by Borders in July. Mrkonic will receive a salary of $100,000 for his role as a Paperchase board member.
