Park Avenue Tutors

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 1/10/2005

A first novel that sounds like a kind of Nanny Diaries of the youthful tutor set has just been bought for Simon & Schuster by Rob Weisbach. It's called Glamorous Disasters and is the work of a young man just two years out of Harvard, Eliot Schrefer. His story is of a young college grad—from Princeton, in fact—who, heavily in debt for his student loans, hires himself out as a tutor to help the high school kids of rich New Yorkers ace the SATs. Agent Richard Pine at Inkwell Management, who made the North American rights sale, likens it to "a Graduate for the new millennium." Word of the sale came, incidentally, from Beth Davey, former publicity director at Little, Brown and now fulfilling the same function—an unusual one for an agency—at Inkwell.
