'My Life' Paperbacks Set for Spring

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 1/17/2005

Vintage is drawing up plans to support the release of the paperback editions of Bill Clinton's My Life. The company announced last week that it will release My Life in both trade paperback and mass market editions this spring. The house will do a 250,000-copy printing for the trade paperback and 500,000 apiece for the first and second volumes of the mass market, which are divided into "The Early Years" and "The Presidential Years." The trade paper and first mass market are due out May 31, with the second volume of the mass market to be published June 28.

Both formats will have new material, but Knopf declined to elaborate and said it would be "incorrect to assume" that it would encompass current political events.

Knopf explained its decision on the timing to larger consumer patterns. "Summer's a great sales opportunity. We saw that with the hardcover," said Knopf's Paul Bogaards. "The summer months are when people are traveling around the country and interested in this."

The trade paperback will be priced at $17.95; the mass markets will be $7.99 each.
