New Deal for U.K. Award Winner

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 1/31/2005

Britain's Sarah Waters, named Author of the Year in the 2003 British Book Awards for her three Victorian-era novels beginning with Tipping the Velvet, has signed for a new novel with her regular publisher here, Julie Grau at Riverhead. The book, Harm, moves to another time to tell the story of a group of Londoners during and after WWII, and how their lives were irredeemably changed by the war. This was a deal for U.S. rights only, made with Jean Naggar on behalf of Waters's London agent, Judith Murray at Greene and Heaton; Virago is publishing in the U.K. Riverhead's hardcover will be out in March next year, followed by a trade paperback.
