A Soldier-Blogger in Iraq

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 2/7/2005

Blogs strike again: a U.S. Army soldier whose Web logs from Iraq, called My War,hailed by his readers as a wonderfully frank and up-front commentary on how the struggle looks from the G.I. viewpoint, has signed to expand them into a book for Putnam. The writer is 28-year-old Colby Buzzell, and senior editor David Highfill signed world and audio rights with Heather Schroder at ICM. Buzzell, who joined the army two years ago because he felt his life was going nowhere, began his blog last summer after becoming disillusioned by how the war was being reported—not only by the news agencies and TV commentators but by other bloggers, too. His book will not only expand on his front-line reports but also talk about his personal experiences in the war. Publication is set for next fall.
