Legal Expert Turns Novelist

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 2/7/2005

Stanford University law professor Paul Goldstein,a leading expert on intellectual property law whose writing skills were lauded in his Copyright's Highway and other legal tomes, is turning novelist for Doubleday. The house's Gerry Howard preempted world rights in what is planned as a series of legal thrillers starring a powerful trial lawyer suffering a marital crisis, beginning with a two-book deal for Errors and Omissions and a sequel. The first book involves corporate power struggles in a Hollywood studio, and Sue Grafton, who had an early look at the manuscript, was enthusiastic. Goldstein's agent is one not normally associated with fiction: former HM publisher Wendy Strothman in Boston.
