'Juiced' Is Pumping

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 2/28/2005

Judith Regan continues her track record for successfully publishing controversial pop-culture titles (see News, Feb. 21). Her newest bestseller, Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits, and How Baseball Got Big, by Jose Canseco, lands in the #2 spot on our nonfiction list. Regan Books launched the book with a 150,000-copy printing and, four trips to press later. is already up to 400,000 copies. Diane Mancher, owner of One Potata Productions, noted that in her 13 years of doing PR, she has never had such a deluge of media requests for an author. Canseco is on tour through March 10, and huge crowds showed up for his first two appearances. On February 22, at Bookends in Ridgewood, N.J., he signed about 700 books in less than two hours. The next day, he signed for about an hour at the Rockefeller Center Barnes & Noble, selling more than 300 books.
