Authors on the Air: Zings, Zounds, Zesty Food

by Staff, PW Daily -- Publishers Weekly, 3/17/2005

It's Darina Allen's lucky day. On the Early Show this morning, the author of Irish Traditional Cooking: Over 300 Recipes from Ireland's Heritage (Kyle Books, $19.95) served up festive fare--Champ with Onions and Gaelic Coffee.

Today on the Diane Rehm Show, Roberta Satow advises on Doing the Right Thing: Taking Care of Your Elderly Parents Even If They Didn't Take Care of You (Tarcher, $22.95). PW found the book "insightful," adding that "psychoanalyst and Brooklyn College sociology professor Satow's personal experience with her own difficult mother suggests that such care may actually mend long-conflicted relationships. She intercuts her clearly written advice with brief illustrative stories taken from interviews with 50 caregivers."

Last night on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Maureen Dowd promoted the paperback edition of Bushworld (Berkley Trade, $15). In a starred review, PW wrote: "As scathingly funny as she is zingingly succinct, New York Times op-ed columnist Dowd has been riding Bush & Co. since his presidential campaign first gathered steam in 1999. Her approach has less to do with party than class: since winning the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for her commentary on the Clinton impeachment, Dowd, originally from working-class, Washington, D.C., has become the unlikely mouthpiece of broad-swath middle-class anger at corporate bosses, the conservative very rich and hawks of all stripes."

Yesterday Good Morning America hosted Ruth Graham, the co-author of I'm Pregnant . . . Now What?: Heartfelt Advice on Getting through an Unplanned Pregnancy (Regal Books, $11.99). Graham, the daughter of evangelist Billy Graham, described how she dealt with her 16-year-old daughter Windsor's pregnancy and offered plenty of advice.

Eureka! On Morning Edition yesterday, Mark Dunn sounded off about Zounds!: A Browser's Dictionary of Interjections (St. Martin's Griffin, $12.95), which, by the way, looks at more than 500 interjections in the English language.
