By George, She's Done It

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 3/28/2005

Elizabeth George has been called "a master of the English mystery"—not bad for an American born in California. Her 13th mystery, With No One as Witness, again stars Scotland Yard detective Thomas Lynley and his sidekick, Barbara Havers, and it lands on PW's fiction hardcover chart in the #5 spot after just a week in the stores. It's her first book with HarperCollins, which launched the book with a 155,000-copy first printing and is now up to 200,000 copies after five additional trips to press. George is on an 11-city tour that ends April 21 in Milwaukee, Wis. She is only one of two American writers (the other is Tony Hillerman) whose novels have been adapted for PBS's Mystery.
