Golden Books Returns to CBA

by Shannon Maughan -- Publishers Weekly, 6/27/2005

Golden Books is planning a return to the Christian Booksellers Association (CBA) market after a long hiatus. Official ramp-up for the new Golden Inspirational campaign begins at the CBA trade conference in Denver next month, where reissued Golden Christian stalwarts like Prayers for Childrenand My Little Golden Book About God will be displayed alongside such new faith-based titles as Bible Heroes.

The move falls in step with a continued blurring of distribution between the CBA and ABA stores and follows Simon & Schuster's recently launched faith-based novelty kids' imprint, Little Simon Inspirations, as well as various Christian publishers' forays into the ABA market.

"Everybody is looking for new markets," said Kate Klimo, v-p and publisher of Random House/Golden Books Young Readers Group. "It's a case of having books that needed a market, and a market that needed the books," she added. Going forward, Klimo plans to release 20 books per year, largely aimed at the Easter and Christmas selling windows.
