Potter Comes to iPods

by Staff, PW Daily -- Publishers Weekly, 9/8/2005

Among the other iPod announcements yesterday came word that Apple had licensed audio rights for the first six Harry Potter audiobooks for digital download from Random House, which controlled the digital audio rights. The books will be sold exclusively via Apple's iTunes store. Financial terms were not disclosed.

This is the first time that the books are available for digital download, though of course CD's could be transferred to iPods by individual consumers. More than 5 million copies of the Harry Potter audiobooks have already been sold in the traditional formats. As you may have heard, at the same event an iPod-cellphone combo and a new super-tiny iPod were both announced.
