A man who has traveled to more than 50 countries tells how to capitalize on dozens of different shooting situations in Rick Sammon’s Travel and Nature Photography: Lessons on Capturing Great Images from Around the World (Apr., $TBA) by Rick Sammon. The 1877 retreat of the Nez Perce Indians from their homeland in the Pacific Northwest to exile in Oklahoma and Canada forms the basis for Following the Nez Perce Trail: A Guide to the Nee-Me-Poo National Historic Trail with Eyewitness Accounts (Dec., $29.95) by Cheryl Wilfong.

Santorini, Mykonos and Delos are just three of the isles visited by John Freely in The Cyclades: Discovering the Greek Islands of the Aegean (July, $19.95). Paul William Roberts takes in the present and the past in River in the Desert: A Modern Traveller in Ancient Egypt (Jan., $14.95). Charles Feil collaborates with Kevin M. McCarthy in presenting images taken from a gyroplane to show the Everglades, beaches and robust urban centers in Over Southeast Florida (Oct., $19.95 cloth).

Whether it’s watching a baseball game in Cuba or reporting on the World Taxidermy Championships in Springfield, Ill., Susan Orlean (The Orchid Thief) is on the scene in a new collection of essays entitled My Kind of Place: Travel Stories from a Woman Who’s Been Everywhere (Oct., $13.95).

RDR BOOKS

Christopher Rush follows the route taken by Robert Louis Stevenson in To Travel Hopefully: Footsteps in the French Cevennes (Sept., $17.95). I Should Have Gone Home: Tripped Up Around the World (Aug., $17.95), edited by Roger Rapoport et al., collects humorous travel stories from all over.
