Grove/Atlantic Makes News for Book and Publisher
by Rachel Deahl, PW Daily -- Publishers Weekly, 11/1/2005
Last week was a good one for Grove/Atlantic. First, president and publisher Morgan Entrekin was named this year's recipient of the Guadalajara International Book Fair's Publishing Merit Award, which has been given to him for his longtime support of innovative fiction and for his support of Latin American writers. He'll receive the award in a ceremony on November 27.
Entrekin's house also had some excitement last week surrounding The Weather Makers. The book, which is written by Australian environmentalist/scientist Tim Flannery and is currently topping the bestseller charts Down Under, got a major push when Australia's environmental minister said the country would be changing its stance on global warming as a result of evidence presented in the book. Grove/Atlantic, which publishes Flannery in the U.S., is now looking into the possibility of changing the pub date and print run.
Publicist Deb Seager said the house has no definitive plans to increase the book's first printing (75,000), but added that moving up the title's March 2006 release is "under consideration." Regardless of whether Weather will hit U.S. shores earlier than planned, Flannery will be stateside in March for a 20-city publicity tour.
