Dorman to Spearhead New Hyperion Imprint

by Rachel Deahl, PW Daily -- Publishers Weekly, 1/9/2006

Decamping from her post as v-p and executive editor of Penguin's Viking imprint, Pamela Dorman has signed on to launch and oversee a new imprint at Hyperion. The yet-to-be-named project will aim to publish fiction and non-fiction titles targeted at female readers 35 and older and, along with Dorman, will include an associate editor. Reporting directly to Ellen Archer, senior v-p and publisher of Hyperion, Dorman will be looking to acquire and edit 12 hardcovers annually with her list set to launch in 2007. Dorman, who's known for spotting the kind of authors that attract mass female audiences (she's worked with bestsellers like Sue Monk Kidd, author of The Secret Life of Bees and The Mermaid Chair, and Helen Fielding, who penned the uber-successful Bridget Jones series), said she will be looking to publish a list that is "well-written yet accessible, thought-provoking and stirring, emotionally resonant and memorable."
