Intervisual Files Chapter 11

Children's novelty publishers Intervisual Books filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday. In its filing, the company cited debts of between $1 million and $10 million with assets falling in the same range. As a result of the bankruptcy, Charles T. Moffit, a consultant in the Los Angeles area whose firm specializes in working with companies in transition, has been named president of the company; Tom Yamamoto, who had been on administrative leave as CEO, is no longer involved with the company. Louis Perlman, who acquired control of the company in 2002, remains chairman.

Originally founded 28 years ago by Waldo Hunt as a packager of pop-up and other novelty books, Intervisual is now mainly a publisher through its Piggy Toes Press and Baby Piggy Toes imprints. Debra Mostow Zakarin, who took over as Intervisual publisher in April, said she intends to publish between 15 to 25 titles this fall and is working on a list for 2007.
