Having been a fan of Kathy Reichs since she first wrote Déjà Dead in 1997, it does not surprise me that she has done a fabulous job once again weaving a tale of mystery, suspense and murder. Her new mystery, Break No Bones (Scribner, July), is set in the deep South Carolina coast. Reichs brings the rich Gullah heritage to life while immersing the reader in a riveting plot that doesn't let go until the last twist is realized. Young and feisty forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan and her students discover a dead body during an excavation on a future building site, and she discovers something about the body that ties it together with some other bodies that have been found over the years. I steer customers to Kathy Reichs when they run out of Patricia Cornwell novels, because at this point, Reichs is even better than Cornwell. This is a great read. Make sure you have plenty of time... you won't want to put it down!
