July 4 releases offer something for both red and blue state readers: Fannie Flagg celebrates rural folk in a new novel set in Elmwood Springs, Mo., while Omar Tyree offers up a racy new tale featuring a consummate city slicker.

Proof Positive by Phillip Margolin (HarperCollins, $25.95) is the third legal thriller featuring defense lawyer Amanda Jaffe, probes the unreliability of CSI evidence while deftly managing a large cast and supplying some satisfying twists, according to the PW review. 200,000 first printing.
The Devil and Miss Prym: A Novel of Temptation by Paulo Coelho (HarperCollins, $24.95) is an old school parable of good and evil involving a poor barmaid’s deal with the devil, was first published in Europe in 1992. 100,000 first printing.
What They Want by Omar Tyree (S&S, $21.95) finds a 33 year-old male model and playboy thinking about settling down, but “Tyree’s attempts to hang a plot on the carnal gymnastics” don’t offer complete satisfaction, according to the PW review. 55,000 first printing.
Can’t Wait to Get to Heaven by Fannie Flagg (Random, $25.95) is a comedic mystery about an 80-year-old woman who falls out of a tree in Elmwood Springs, Missouri, and gets the whole town wondering about the meaning of life, by the bestselling author of Fried Green Tomatoes.
Notorious C.O.P.: The Inside Story of the Tupac, Biggie, and Jam Master Jay Investigations from NYPD's First "Hip-Hop Cop" by Derrick Parker with Matt Diehl (St. Martin’s, $24.95) is a reassessment of the murders Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls and Jam Master Jay by one of the NYPD's veteran detectives.
