Authors on the Air: Never Growing Up; Determined to Reproduce; Always Remembering Schrafft’s

Compiled by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 6/28/2006

This morning on Today, journalist Christopher Noxon explained Rejuvenile: Kickball, Cartoons, Cupcakes, and the Reinvention of the American Grown-up (Crown, $23.95). As PW’s review put it: “According to Noxon, rejuveniles–adults who use childhood past-times as ‘a way of maintaining wonder, trust, and silliness in a world where these qualities are often in short supply’–are proliferating, and unlike other books on the topic of ‘kidults’, his book says this is largely good.”

The Diane Rehm Show interviewed former Knopf senior editor Jenny Minton, author of an infertility memoir The Early Birds: A Mother's Story for Our Times (Knopf, $23). PW’s review said “While there are many infertility memoirs on the market, Minton's advantages set her work apart. She was young and healthy enough to undergo infertility treatment. Her employers were flexible. Her husband was able to support her with his generous paycheck, and her insurance company was willing to pay the $1 million she estimated the twins cost. Although the book's first half is riveting, Minton's comfortable situation turns the second half—when the twins are out of danger—into a sentimental monologue.”

Another Diane Rehmguest was Dr. Stephen Miles, author of Oath Betrayed: Torture, Medical Complicity, and the War on Terror (Random House, $23.95).

Three authors on The Leonard Lopate Show:

Joseph Callo introduced John Paul Jones: America's First Sea Warrior (Naval Institute Press, $25.95);

Joan Kanel Slomanson reminisced about When Everybody Ate at Schrafft's: Memories, Pictures, and Recipes from a Very Special Restaurant Empire (Barricade, $21.95); and

Journalist David Houze sought Twilight People: One Man's Journey to Find His Roots, his memoir of seeking his mixed-race South African family (Univ. of California Press, $24.95).

Tonight on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Al Gore keeps on telling An Inconvenient Truth (Rodale, $21.95).
