Name Change for Warner Faith; Baker Launches New Emergent Line
By Lynn Garrett -- Publishers Weekly, 6/28/2006
Warner Faith, the Nashville-based Christian publishing division of the Time Warner Book Group, announced yesterday (June 27) that it is changing its name to FaithWords. The change comes as the result of the recent acquisition of the Time Warner Book Group by Hachette Livre. “Time Warner wanted to retain control of the Warner name, and we are proud to establish a fresh identity with our new parent company,” publisher Rolf Zettersten said in a statement. “Hachette Livre…is completely committed to our continued growth and expansion.” The name change is effective immediately on stationery and marketing materials, but book covers and copyright pages will not be changed until November. FaithWords is the publisher of bestselling authors Joel Osteen (Your Best Life Now) and Joyce Meyer (Look Great, Feel Great).
Baker Books, a division of Grand Rapids-based Baker Publishing Group, and Emergent Village, a nonprofit organization that brings together innovative church leaders across denominational lines, have announced the name of the new series they are producing in partnership. The series will be called emersion: Emergent’s resources for communities of faith, and the first book will be An Emergent Manifesto of Hope, edited by Doug Pagitt and Tony Jones. The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association, which added an “Emerging Church” subcategory in 2003, defines such books as "addressing the complex issues of our world's ongoing cultural shifts and the impact this will have on the local church and its ministries." Baker calls “’the emerging church conversation’ a movement of those seeking to explore new opportunities for Christianity, and how the church will meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.”
