As a rule, I do not read a series until the set is complete because I am usually very frustrated when I have to wait for the next installment. Terry Brooks is the exception to my rule—I read his books as soon as they are available. I could not put down Armageddon's Children (Del Rey, Aug. 29). Once I finished it, I immediately re-read it, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time. I like the fact that I can't anticipate what is going to happen next in a Brooks novel. I can't count the times I've gotten to the middle of a book—sometimes even earlier—and I can already predict the ending. Brooks is one of the few writers whose plots can actually surprise me and yet the surprise is logical and fits the story. Brooks is an expert at keeping the plot lines true as a story continues from book to book.
