Berger Upped at DC

Karen Berger has been promoted to Senior Vice President—Executive Editor, Vertigo, it was announced today by Paul Levitz, DC Comics President & Publisher. Berger will continue to report directly to Levitz, who commented, “Karen has built Vertigo into an imprint which is simultaneously one of comics’ leading creative and commercial successes, and an important resource for the creation of projects we can move from comics to entertain audiences in other media. She remains the field’s strongest editor and it’s my personal pleasure to recognize her achievements with this promotion.” DC's Vertigo imprint has had an increasing graphic novel presence with books as The Quitter Sandman: Endless Nights and success in Hollywood with the films Constantine and V for Vendetta.

Yaoi Press Licenses Italian Yaoi Manga for U.S.

Yaoi Press Ltd. has bought the English publishing rights to three yaoi manga graphic novels from Italy. Dany & Dany's Eikon and La Luna Nel Pozzo will be published in the U.S. as Icon and Wishing For The Moon, while Like U by Zel will be published as Love Circles. All three were originally published in Italy by Echo Communications under the "Boy+Boy" imprint, and will be released in the U.S. by Yaoi press in Spring 2007. Yaoi Press is the first major publisher to license yaoi from outside of Asia.—C.A.

Kelso Returns to Seattle

Author Megan Kelso (The Squirrel Mother) will be signing at Ravenna Third Place Books, 6504 20th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA on Thursday, August 24th, at 7:30PM. A Seattle native, Kelso will be making her first public appearance there since she moved to New York in 2001. At the signing, she'll show panels from the book that were inspired by her memories of Seattle, followed by a Q&A with the audience.

John Woo and Garth Ennis Team for Virgin Comics

Famed director John Woo (HardBoiled, Mission Impossible II) has created a book for Virgin Comics' Directors Cut line entitled Seven Brothers, based on Chinese folklore brought to the modern day. The concept will be developed and written by Garth Ennis, writer of such comics as Preacher and The Punisher.The series will debut in October and features painted covers by Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano, with variant covers by artist Greg Horn.
