Last Sunday, 35 employees from Chronicle Books participated in the 20th annual San Francisco AIDS Walk. The team joined 25,000 walkers in Golden Gate Park to raise $3.7million to support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and other Bay Area service organizations. Team Chronicle raised $9,473, double what it raised last year.

Striking a Post

Working the Crowd
Author Janet Walls came out to network and sign copies of hew new book, Job Seeker's Online Goldmine (JIST), at the National Career Development Association's Conference in Chicago last weekend. The event drew more than 900 career counselors and educators.

Ham-ming it Up at Sea
Hundreds of guests came out in New York on Tuesday night for Vintage's seafaring blowout, the HAM-stravaganza. The crowd, pictured here in the "belly" of The Frying Pan--a bar/moored ship off the West Side Highway--enjoyed live music and glimpses of cosumted pirates, in honor of the paperback release of Gideon Defoe's "2-in-1" novel, The Pirates! In an Adventure With Ahab and The Pirates! In an Adventure With Scientists.
Christys Bring Authors to Denver
Christian authors came out in full force for the 7th annual Christy Awards, which honor excellence in Christian fiction. Held in Denver on July 8th, the event drew such writers as (l. to r.): Brandilyn Collins (Zondervan Publishing); Colleen Coble (WestBow Press); Deborah Raney (Howard Books/Simon & Schuster, Steeple Hill Books); and Tamera Alexander (Bethany House Publishers).
Pat Cody and Andy Ross addressed store patrons over the weekend at the 50th anniversary party of Cody's Telegraph Ave. store in Berkeley. The landmark store will close its doors tonight. Owner Andy Ross said he couldn’t bear to close it on July 9.
Books and Friends in the Capitol
Writers and friends came out this weekend to celebrate the release of Carolyn Parkhurst's new novel, Lost and Found (Little, Brown). Denise Orenstein, director of the MFA program at American University, hosted the event at her home in Washington, DC. Forever Young
