Authors on the Air: 9/11 Report, Graphic; Pat Summerall’s Memoir; Defense Secretary’s Novel

Compiled by Diane Patrick, PW Daily -- Publishers Weekly, 8/22/2006

This morning on Today, Sid Jacobson and artist Ernie Colón presented The 9/11 Report: A Graphic Adaptation (Hill & Wang, $30). Point of trivia: Sid Jacobson was the creator of cartoon character Richie Rich. Later today, the two will be interviewed by Neal Chase on NPR’s “Talk of the Nation.”

On Good Morning America, Irwin Redlener discussed Americans at Risk: Why We Are Not Prepared for Megadisasters and What We Can Do (Knopf, $24.95).

Charles Euchner appeared on The Diane Rehm Show with Little League, Big Dreams: The Hope, the Hype and the Glory of the Greatest World Series Ever Played (Sourcebooks, $22.95), about which PW’s review said “Even those with only a passing interest in baseball will be intrigued by this fascinating look at Little League, ‘the largest amateur sports organization in the world.’”

On The Leonard Lopate Show, Nicole Krauss explained The History of Love (Norton, $13.95; Recorded Books audio CD, $34.99). From PW’s starred review: “Writing with tenderness about eccentric characters, she uses earthy humor to mask pain and to question the universe. Her distinctive voice is both plangent and wry, and her imagination encompasses many worlds.”

Also on The Leonard Lopate Show: sports broadcasting legend Pat Summerall talked up Summerall: On and Off the Air (Nelson Books, $24.99).

Tonight, former secretary of defense William S. Cohen visits The Daily Show with Jon Stewart with Dragon Fire (Forge, $24.95; Audio Renaissance abridged audio CD, $29.95). PW’s review had this to say: “Rich in both action and detail, Cohen's solid debut chronicles several weeks in the life of Michael Santini, who–surprise!–serves as secretary of defense in an administration battling world crises on many fronts … fans of espionage and intrigue will surely appreciate this political thriller for its authentic glimpse behind the doors of power.”
