Nudo Named 'PW' Publisher; New Circulation Plan Unveiled
-- Publishers Weekly, 9/25/2006
David Nudo is leaving his post as managing director of book advertising at the New York Times to take over as publisher of Publishers Weekly. He will report to executive v-p/publisher of the Reed Business Information publishing group Bill McGorry.
Nudo has had a long career in trade and consumer magazine publishing, including serving as sales director at RBI, where he launched a special sales department for PW, as well as for its affiliated publications Library Journal and School Library Journal. At PW, Nudo will have overall business and editorial responsibility for the magazine.
One area of focus for Nudo will be helping to implement PW's new subscription policy, under which--for the first time in its history--the magazine will be given free to all book retailers. The policy will be rolled out over the next several months. "The industry has changed," Nudo said about the move to a qualified controlled circulation model. "We want to make sure that all booksellers look to PW as the authority about what is going on in the business and what books they should be selling and why."
"I am thrilled we were able to entice David to return to RBI," said RBI CEO Tad Smith. "I look forward to the leadership he will bring to what is already a great team." Nudo starts October 2.
