NYCC Adds Additional Guests
The New York Comic-Con has recently announced several new additions to its guest list. Creators Jeff Smith, Alison Bechdel, Frank Cho, Frank Brunner, Rich Buckler, Bill Sienkiewicz, J. David Spurlock and Jhonen Vasquez will be appearing at the popular convention. Jeff Smith, along with creator Stan Lee, has also been listed as a Guest of Honor for the convention.The New York Comic-Con will take place from February 23 to February 25 at the Jacob K. Marvel and Guiding Light Team Up
Fans of the soap opera Guiding Light will soon be able to read about their favorite characters in the pages of Marvel Comics. On October 25, November 1 and November 8, an eight page story featuring characters from Guiding Light as well as characters from the Marvel universe will appear in the issues of several popular Marvel titles.Interested viewers can also tune into Guiding Light on November 1 in order to catch the many "Easter Eggs" geared towards Marvel fans hidden within the show.
VIZ Announces Titles For Fall Release
VIZ has announced the upcoming release of nine new manga titles. The titles to be released are Train_Man: Densha Otoko, Hayate The Combat Butler, R.O.D: Read Or Dream, O-Parts Hunter, The Cain Saga, La Corda d'Oro, Punch!, Tail Of The Moon and Reborn. The Cain Saga, La Corda d'Oro, Punch!, Tail Of The Moon and Reborn will be released under the Shonen Jump imprint. The first titles will debut in October of 2006.
UVC To Launch In Spring
UVC, which stands for Urban Voice in Comics, will debut in the spring of 2007 at the New York Comic-Con. The publication will be distributed by Diamond and A & B Black Book Distributors. UVC will be a free, full-color monthly newsletter with a focus on African-American comic book publishers, writers, artists, characters and other key figures in the world of comics. Well-known columnist Rich Watson has recently signed on to UVC as editor. The UVC website is set to launch in October.
Random House Includes Graphic Novel Submissions In Scholarship Competition
Book publisher Random House will hold a creative writing competition for high school seniors. Winners of the competition will receive substantial scholarships ranging from a stipend of 10,000 dollars to a "Creativity Kit" containing inspirational gifts from Random House. For this year's competition, graphic novel submissions will be accepted for the first time. Students can handle both art and writing chores on their own, or assemble a creative team of two or more students to produce a graphic novel submission.
DriveThruComics.com Launches
Internet site DriveThruComics.com has recently launched. The website is dedicated to providing instant PDF downloads of a wide variety of graphic novels to online readers for a reduced sum. DriveThruComics has already partnered with many well-known publishers and studios such as UDON and NBM to provide material to site visitors.
