Viz Expands European Operations
Entertainment and manga publisher Viz Media has announced the expansion of its European department of operations and the relocation of its European headquarters from Paris to Amsterdam. The European division will reopen on January 15 of 2007 as Viz Media Europe. Viz Media has also announced John Easum has received a promotion and now holds the title of President/Gérant of Viz Media Europe. Easum will be responsible for overseeing Viz Media's European, Middle Eastern and African operations. Easum previously held the title of executive v-p of Viz Media and was responsible for supervising Viz Media’s North American sales and marketing operations.
Kyle Baker In Brooklyn Group Art Show
The Corridor Gallery in Brooklyn is presenting Up, Up and Away: Interpreted Comics and Graphic Novels, an exhibition of three comic inspired artists, a group exhibition of comics artists that will open on January 14. The show features the work of acclaimed cartoonist Kyle Baker and the comics-inspired works of John Alex Gonzalez and Joshua Peters. The show will feature works from Baker's Nat Turner comics series. A panel discussion on the show will be held on January 27. The Corridor Gallery is directed by Danny Simmons and is located at 334 Grand Avenue in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Bone Raffle Begins At Joystiq
Joystiq, a popular Internet blog about video games, has announced that it has currently placed a bundle of Bone related merchandise up for a charity raffle on the Joystiq Web site. Included in the bundle are copies of the Bone: The Great Cow Race video game, the Out From Boneville and The Great Cow Race trade paperbacks, and downloadable codes for the Director's Cuts of both of Telltale's Bone episodes. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit Child’s Play, an organization dedicated to providing sick children in hospitals around the globe with toys, games and books for young patients to enjoy.
Dini and Vaughan Guests Of Honor At NYCC
The New York Comic-Con has announced that creator Paul Dini, well known for his work on both Detective Comics and the Batman and Superman animated series, and acclaimed writer Brian K. Vaughan, best known for Pride of Baghdad and Ex Machina, have been added to the guest of honor list for the
2007 New York Comic-Con. Dini and Vaughan will join other important figures in the world of comics such as creators Stephen King, Stan Lee, and George Perez. The New York Comic-Con will take place on February 23 through February 25 of 2007 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City. Newsarama Offers New Year Number Ones
A handful of first issues from series released by independent comics publisher Image Comics have been made available online for readers to enjoy at no cost on Internet comics news site Newsarama. Some of the premier issues that have been released are Fell #1, Ellis and Templesmith’s urban crime drama with a supernatural twist, The Nightly News #1, Hickman’s fast-paced revolutionary tale, and Cyberforce #1, Marz and Lee’s story of hi-tech superheroics. Individuals with an interest in sampling some of the comics featured in Newsarama’s Week of Image #1’s can visit the Newsarama Web site.
Kitchen Sink Now Accepting Donations
Kitchen Sink Magazine, a magazine well known for providing independent cartoonists and writers with a place to showcase their work, will be forced to fold next year if the magazine cannot raise funds to alleviate its current financial distress. Because Kitchen Sink’s distributor is currently behind on payments for previous issues of the magazine, Kitchen Sink #15, the latest completed issue of the magazine, and Kitchen Sink #16, the following and final issue, have currently been placed on hold.
Kitchen Sink must raise $1,000 in order to ship issue #15 in January 2007. Additional funds must be also raised in order to ship issue #16. Individuals interested in helping Kitchen Sink can visit the Kitchen Sink Web site and make a donation to the magazine. Back issues of Kitchen Sink Magazine are also available for purchase while supplies last.
Yuricon 2007 Releases Initial Guest List
Yuricon’s “Yurisai”, a convention dedicated to celebrating yuri and shoujoai manga, has announced the first wave of guests to appear at its 2007 gathering. Creators Rica Takashima, Althea Keaton, Beth Malone, Kelli Nicely and Sergio Aviles will all make an appearance at Yuricon’s 2007 “Yurisai” event. The 2007 Yuricon “Yurisai” convention will take place on Saturday, September 29 at the Gateway Hilton in Newark, New Jersey.
