Putnam to Do Ford Book

by Rachel Deahl -- Publishers Weekly, 1/31/2007

Following Holt's announcement early this month that it is crashing a bio about Gerald Ford, Putnam is entering the fray with its own Ford title. The currently untitled book by journalist Thomas DeFrank is promised to be a juicier take on the recently deceased 38th president; a statement from the Penguin imprint said the book will "reveal for the first time" Ford's opinions of Nixon, the Iraq war and politics at large. The imprint said the book's contents are culled from DeFrank's conversations with Ford, which the late president understood "would not be made public until after his death." The title is scheduled for fall 2007.
