Gather.com Gets Responses for Writing Contest

The writing contest that Gather.com launched with Simon & Schuster in January has attracted more than 1,500 responses, according to the social networking site. The First Chapters contest, which the site says has been drawing an average of 200 manuscripts per week, will close on March 15. The initial batch of finalists will be announced on the site April 3 and the grand prize winner—who’ll receive a contract with S&S imprint Touchstone and $5,000—will be named on May 31.
