'Journey' Found

Random House's Paul Taunton has acquired world English rights to the first-ever translation of a novel by H.G. Adler (Theresienstadt 1941–45) from Jennifer Lyons at Lyons & Pande on behalf of Paul Zsolnay Verlag in Vienna. Originally published in 1962, The Journey is one of only three known novels of the Holocaust by German-speaking survivors. Random senior v-p and executive editor Daniel Menaker called the work a "buried literary treasure." The novel describes the growth of a genocidal fascism, without reference to Germany, Nazis or any specific time or place. The Journey will be translated by Peter Filkins, a poet and professor at Simon's Rock College of Bard, who discovered a copy of the book in German at a bookstore and became determined to make it his next project. Random is looking to publish the title in late 2008 or early 2009.
