On Sale Next Week: Lionel Shriver
by Charlotte Abbott, PW Daily -- Publishers Weekly, 3/5/2007
Lionel Shriver’s We Need to Talk About Kevin won England’s Orange Prize in 2005 and became a popular book club pick for its daring look at maternal ambivalence and the role it can play in a child’s act of violence. Shriver’s latest novel is another study of female ambivalence—this time about men and commitment.

MARCH 13
Daddy’s Girl by Lisa Scottoline (HarperCollins, $25.95) is a stand-alone suspense novel featuring a law professor who teaches at the University of Pennsylvania (FYI: Scottoline has just started teaching at Penn and working on a Court TV program called Murder by the Book, on which bestselling mystery writers will discuss real crimes.) 350,000 copies.
The Post-Birthday World by Lionel Shriver (HarperCollins, $25.95) explores two parallel realities: in one, a woman in a passionless relationship passes up the chance to cheat on her longtime boyfriend, and in the other she decides to kiss the other man. Though some early critics have called it formulaic, most agree that it’s redeemed by highly accomplished writing. 150,000 copies.
[c] Thanks to You by Julie Andrews Edwards and Emma Walton Hamilton (HarperCollins/Julie Andrews Collection, $14.99) is a picture book from film and stage star Julie Andrews and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton. 150,000 copies.
You Don’t Love Me Yet by Jonathan Lethem (Doubleday, $24.95) strays from Brooklyn in a romantic farce about a Los Angeles alternative rock band’s near-fame experience that PW found “entertaining,” though not as groundbreaking as the author’s previous works. 100,000 copies.
