Bahamian Pastor Delivers for Whitaker House
by Amy Tracy, Religion BookLine -- Publishers Weekly, 3/28/2007
Charismatic publisher Whitaker House is in celebration mode these days—the house is going back to press for the fourth time with Myles Munroe's The Most Important Person in the World. In less than three months the book has sold 65,000 copies, and come April, 147,513 will be in print in more than 40 countries. Those kinds of numbers are unmatched in the history of Whitaker House.
Munroe is the leader of a 2,000-member congregation, Bahamas Faith Ministries International (BMFI), based in Nassau. A Bahamas native, he returned home in 1980 after attending graduate school in the U.S. Munroe leads the BFMI teaching ministry on leadership and prayer that reaches more than 70 nations. He writes that "trapped in every follower is an undiscovered leader," and his organization is devoted to finding and fostering potential leaders, particularly in developing countries.
Munroe is the author of more than 25 books, six of them with Whitaker House, including Understanding the Purpose and Power of Prayer, now in its 8th printing with more than 320,000 in print. Recently Munroe signed with Hachette's FaithWords imprint for three books, the first to be published in spring 2008. FaithWords wanted an exclusive contract, but Munroe declined out of loyalty to Whitaker House.

Said Joy Ike, publicist at Whitaker House, "In addition to the publicity generated by the contest, we have been on an extensive marketing and publicity campaign with independent Christian bookstores and have secured prominent placement in the major chains." The company has also placed ads in major trade publications.
