For the second consecutive month, the stock prices of nine companies listed on the PW Stock Index fell in March, while prices rose at eight. Pearson, which, depending on what rumors you believe, is either about to make a major acquisition or is about to be acquired, had the largest price increase in March at 10.3%. Audible followed up a 33% increase in its stock price in February with a 9.0% gain in March. Disappointing fourth-quarter results put Borders and Barnes & Noble on the losers list in March; Books-A-Million, which had the largest drop of all PWSI companies in March, saw its price soar 23% April 2, the first business day after it posted strong earnings gains for 2006.
