Morgan Road Imprint Closing

Doubleday Broadway is closing down Morgan Road Books,
the imprint formed by Amy Hertz when she left Riverhead to join the Random House division in 2004. The imprint has published 17 titles to date, in categories ranging from self-help, spirituality and lifestyle. Although Morgan Road has had a few hits--The Female Brain is currently selling well--the imprint has not been able to carve out a unique place for itself in the market. Hertz will be leaving the company and two other positions are being eliminated.
"Morgan Road Books was an experiment, one we tried very hard to make work, as did Amy and her team, but we concluded that it does not make business sense to continue with the imprint," said David Drake, v-p and executive director of publicity for the Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group. Doubleday will publish all books signed for Morgan Road under the Broadway Books name. Among the other titles on the Morgan Road backlist are The Fast Track Detox Diet and The Universe in a Single Atom by the Dalai Lama.
