Tattered Cover's Meskis to Head Denver Publishing Program

By Rachel Deahl -- Publishers Weekly, 4/18/2007 12:47:00 PM

Well-known indie bookseller Joyce Meskis has been named director of the University of Denver Publishing Institute. Meskis, who manages Denver's Tattered Cover bookstore, will take the reins at the Institute in January 2008, succeeding Elizabeth Geiser. Geiser, who founded the four-week graduate program dedicated to teaching various aspects of book publishing, is retiring. Speaking of her new role, Meskis, who will continue to run the Tattered Cover while working at the Institute, said: "In my youth I set a course to become a teacher but happily got sidetracked into the book industry. Now I can blend these two passions."
