Morris Communications Sells Cadogan Guides

The Globe Pequot Press in Guilford, Conn., continues to refine its travel list with the sale of Cadogan Guides by parent company Morris Communications to New Holland Publishers Ltd.

According to New Holland managing director John Beaufoy, Cadogan Guides, which have more than 100 destinations, including French, Spanish and Italian regional guide series, are a "perfect partner" for the company's Globetrotter list. Currently, New Holland publishes travel packs, maps, atlases, phrase books and wildlife and safari guides. The company, based in London, will not retain current Cadogan managing director Jenny Calcutt or her staff.

"The Cadogan sale is completely in line with the Globe travel strategy," said Globe president Scott Watrous. "Cadogan fits much better with New Holland, and we will continue to distribute Cadogan in the States." Although it will lose its 20-year-old U.K.-based travel series, Globe Pequot is in the midst of launching a new travel line this fall based on another Morris property, Where magazine. Initial Where titles will cover U.S. cities and states. In 2008, the series will expand its coverage overseas.
