Deluxe Godland Due in July

Following the publication of the first two Godland trade paperbacks, Hello, Cosmic! and Another Sunny Delight, Image Comics plans to collect issues 1–12 of the cosmic comic book serial in a deluxe hardcover edition that goes on sale July 18. The new oversize collection will cost $34.99, and contain more than 40 pages of extra content.

Cocreated by writer Joe Casey and artist Tom Scioli, Godland tells the story of superpowered astronaut Adam Archer and his three spirited sisters, Neela, Angie, and Stella, as they defend the Earth from intergalactic threats. Strongly influenced by the cosmic superhero stories of Silver Age comics (roughly the early 1950s through the 1970s), Godland is a space epic in the spirit of Marvel comics' iconic comics creator Jack Kirby, but with a narrative complexity and sense of irreverence that give it a distinctly modern twist.

Although the Godland serial currently enjoys steady sales, said Image director of marketing Mark Britt, the new hardcover is expected to further boost its visibility. "We feel that putting Godland in this format will help push it into its proper place as a higher profile title," said Britt. "C'mon, if a massive guy cracking a planet in half doesn't get your attention, then you very well might be dead."

Similar in format to the deluxe hardcovers of Robert Kirkman's Invincible superhero series, also published by Image, the new Godland collection contains numerous extras. The book will include initial e-mails between Casey and Scioli, an essay by Tom Spurgeon of The Comics Reporter, concept drawings, and an introduction by Grant Morrison.
