Key Porter Crosses the Border
by Judith Rosen, PW Daily -- Publishers Weekly, 5/16/2007
Canadian independent publisher Key Porter Books Ltd. has inked a deal with PGW/Perseus to expand its presence in the U.S. Previously, the Toronto-based press had sold only a small portion of its 125 new releases and 700-title backlist in the U.S. through Firefly. Under the new agreement, PGW/Perseus will distribute 40 Key Porter spring 2007 titles, 35 fall titles and several hundred backlist titles.
"Working with our new partners allows us the opportunity to broaden our publishing program, expand our market and introduce many talented Canadian writers to a U.S. audience," said Key Porter publisher C. Jordan Fenn. With the distribution deal in place, Fenn said, he will up the number of titles for which Key Porter acquires North American rights, and he plans to publish 50 books a season with PGW/Perseus. Key Porter will also tour more of its authors in the U.S.
