Cookbook Expo Heats Up
By Robert Dahlin -- Publishers Weekly, 5/30/2007 12:15:00 PM
Absent from BEA since 2004, Cookbook Expo returns with a flourish this year at the Javits Center. Stop by to watch chefs in action and partake in the goodies they’re turning out.
Today at the Second Stage, you’ll find Laurent Tourondel (Bistro Laurent Tourondel: New American Bistro Cooking, Wiley) at 10 a.m.; Alan Rosen (Junior’s Cheesecake Cookbook, Taunton) at 11 a.m.; James Peterson (Cooking, Ten Speed Press) at noon; and Ron Silver (Bubby’s Homemade Pies, Wiley) at 1 p.m. Tomorrow’s lineup has Stephanie Tourles (Organic Body Care Recipes, Storey) at 10 a.m.; Robin Miller (Quick Fix Meals: 200 Simple, Delicious Recipes to Make Mealtime Easier, Taunton) at 11 a.m.; Julee Rosso and Sheila Lukins (The Silver Palate Cookbook, Workman) at noon; and Dave Pasternack (The Young Man and the Sea: Recipes and Crispy Fish Tales from Esca, Artisan) at 1 p.m.
Steve Rosoto, BEA’s director of strategic accounts, notes that there is ample space for 120 people
to view the cooking demonstrations, and a mirror overhead will allow convention-goers to see everything that’s going on. "People will be able to swipe their badges while attending one of the sessions," notes Rosoto, "and at the end of the show, we’ll give away two sets of all the books that are part of this year’s Cookbook Expo."
"We’re making a fresh blueberry pie with crème fraîche," reveals Ron Silver. "It’s a specialty of Bubby’s Pie Company, and it’s a recipe from the book."
Robin Miller, who has been a Food Network star for a couple of years with her show, Quick Fix Meals, reports that her book of the same name is her sixth title. "I’m passionate about cooking," she confesses. Miller will make Apricot Puff Pastry Twists for her BEA audience. "They’re a perfect example of how you can create something fancy in minutes."
