Authors on the Air: Rock Bottom Remainders; Paranoid America; Thick as Thieves

This morning, the Rock Bottom Remainders (Mitch Albom, Dave Barry, Roy Blount Jr., Greg Iles, Kathi Kamen Goldmark, Stephen King, Matt Groening, James McBride, Amy Tan, Ridley Pearson and Scott Turow) appeared on Good Morning America.

Diane Rehm chatted with investigative reporter Ted Gup, author of Nation of Secrets: The Threat to Democracy and the American Way of Life (Doubleday, $24.95). PW found it a "probing exposé... a cogent critique of a tight-lipped America that is increasingly paranoid, dysfunctional and absurd."

Sherman Alexie visited The Bob Edwards Show with Flight (Grove/Black Cat, $13), his first novel in 10 years, which PW's review said "elegantly mixes free-floating young adult cynicism with a charged, idiosyncratic view of American history. Alexie plunges the book into bracing depths."

Authors on The Leonard Lopate Show:
Steve Geng explained Thick as Thieves: A Brother, a Sister—a True Story of Two Turbulent Lives (Henry Holt, $24). He's the brother of New Yorker writer Veronica Geng (who died of a brain tumor in 1997). From PW's starred review: "[Steve] Geng enjoyed a lucrative career as a petty criminal—and hardcore junkie—while his sister climbed the masthead of the New Yorker. It's amazing that Geng is still alive and a miracle that a man who didn't pick up a pen until he was in his 50s writes with such vigor and joy."

Actor Bruce Dern spelled out Things I've Said, but Probably Shouldn't Have: An Unrepentant Memoir (Wiley, $24.95).
