Karp Buys Bronson Parenting Book

By Karen Holt -- Publishers Weekly, 6/2/2007 7:31:00 AM

Twelve publisher Jonathan Karp has pre-empted North American rights to a book by journalist and bestselling author Po Bronson on "the new science of parenting." The book, which Karp said he expects to publish in 2009 or 2010, will expand on the ideas in Bronson's New York magazine story, How Not to Talk to Your Kids: The Inverse Power of Praise.

"We believe this book will redefine the way parents think about the way they relate to their children," Karp said. The deal reunites Karp and Bronson, who worked together on five books while Karp was at Random House. Bronson will work on the book with his frequent collaborator Ashley Merryman. Curtis Brown literary agency is selling foreign rights.

Bronson's previous books include the long-running bestseller What Should I Do With My Life? and Why Do I Love These People?
