Chelsea Green Gets Eco-Friendly Kids Line

by Rachel Deahl, PW Daily -- Publishers Weekly, 6/6/2007

Chelsea Green has acquired the environmentally conscious children's series Gaia Girls. Written by Lee Welles and originally self-published through her Daisyworld Press, the series is part of the publisher's attempt to attract younger readers. The first book in the line, Enter the Earth, which just came out in paperback, received a 2006 National Outdoor Book Award in the Children's category and a 2007 iParenting Media Award. According to Chelsea Green communications director Kalen Landow, the second book, Way of Water, went to press for a split 10,000-copy paperback and hardcover run, with "the bulk being paperback." Landow said two more books are forthcoming in the series, but no pub dates have been set. Welles decided to stop self-publishing, Kalen said, because she's looking to be freed up to do more events.
