The five authors who have been nominated in the Debut Author category of the Quills were announced this morning. The nominees are A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah (Sarah Crichton Books/Farrar, Straus & Giroux); No One Belongs Here More Than You: Stories by Miranda July (Scribner); This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of Human Obsession by Daniel J. Candidates for the 2007 Quill Debut Author of the Year were submitted by the publishers from titles published between July 1, 2006, and June 30, 2007. Nominees were chosen by the Quills/Publishers Weekly Selection Committee, headed by Sara Nelson, PW's editor-in-chief, and comprising PW editors.
The 2007 Quills Debut Author of the Year, along with the winners in the 18 other Quills categories, will be selected by a voting board consisting of more than 6,000 booksellers and librarians; the selections will be announced on September 10. From September 10 through October 10, book readers will vote, via quillsvote.com, for "The Book of the Year," selecting from the group of 18 Quill Award winners. The Quills ceremony is set for October 22.
