Two Belzer Books to S&S

By Matthew Thornton -- Publishers Weekly, 6/25/2007 11:52:00 AM

Actor and comedian Richard Belzer has signed a deal with David Rosenthal and Colin Fox at Simon & Schuster for a mystery series featuring the author as himself, a TV actor who gets wrapped up in a real mystery. Eric Gardner at Panacea Entertainment sold rights to two books, the first of which, I am Not a Cop, will be published in fall 2008.

Belzer, who has played Detective John Munch on nine different television series, including his current gig on NBC’s Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, is also the author of UFOs, JFK and Elvis: Conspiracies You Don’t Have to be Crazy to Believe (Ballantine, 1999) and the coauthor of How to Be a Standup Comic (Villard, 1988). Mike Black will collaborate on the new books, which Belzer describes as a mix of Dashiell Hammett, Oscar Wilde, Lenny Bruce and Robert Altman.
