Authors on the Air: Andrew O'Hagan’s Fourth; Allergies, Unwrapped; Robin Roberts’s Rules
Compiled by Diane Patrick, PW Daily -- Publishers Weekly, 6/26/2007
Andrew O'Hagan visited The Leonard Lopate Show with his fourth novel, Be Near Me (Harcourt, $24; Bolinda Audio unabridged CD, $64). PW’s starred review had this to say: “This burnished gem of a novel has drama, emotional resonance and intellectual power enough to recall one's favorite 19th-century writers.”On The Diane Rehm Show, science historian Gregg Mitman provided Breathing Space: How Allergies Shape Our Lives and Landscapes (Yale Univ. Press, $30). From PW’s review: “In clear and detailed prose, Mitman offers a wide-ranging history of this ongoing struggle that's as much about 20th-century American consumerism as it is about allergies.”
Authors on The Bob Edwards Show:
Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Paul Starr talked about Freedom's Power: The True Force of Liberalism (Perseus, $26). PW’s review noted, “Complex macroeconomic, demographic and philosophical trends are presented engagingly and understandably for casual readers and political buffs alike.”
Political strategist George Lakoff wondered Whose Freedom? The Battle over America's Most Important Idea (Picador, $14; Audio Partners unabridged CD, $29.95).
Tonight, Tavis Smiley talks with journalist Robin Roberts, coanchor of Good Morning America and author of From the Heart: Seven Rules to Live By (Hyperion, $19.95; Hyperion abridged CD, $19.98).
Jimmy Kimmel Live hosts insult comic Don Rickles, author of Rickles' Book: A Memoir (S&S, $24), which PW referred to as “a feel-good memoir that's loaded with photos and sentiment. Those looking for a sardonic autobiography will be disappointed; Rickles accentuates the positive.”
